I'm around 280 and have been through three mattresses in four years. They all sag or develop a crater. Currently on a memory foam that's given up after 18 months. Looking for something that will actually last. What are you heavier folks sleeping on that hasn't turned to mush? Budget is flexible but I'm not paying $5k for a bed.
Anyone over 250 lbs happy with their mattress
I'm 265 and have had good luck with a latex mattress from Sleep on Latex. It's been about two years and no sagging. It's firm though, and it took some getting used to. I added a soft topper for a bit of cushion.
Have you tried sleeping on the floor? Just me? Okay.
I'm 300+, and got a Big Fig. It's built for heavier people. It's only been a year, but it's holding up way better than the Sealy I had before. Customer service was decent too when I had questions.
My husband is ~270 and we have a WinkBed Plus. It's been great for him, though I find it a bit too firm. He's a back sleeper, FWIW. No indentations so far (2 years).
Don't get a Tempur-Pedic if you're heavy. I'm 255 and mine is developing body impressions after 3 years. Their warranty requires a certain indentation depth, and it's not quite there yet. Annoying.
Latex is the way to go. It's dense and doesn't break down like foam. I'm 290 and have had a Dunlop latex mattress from Arizona Premium Mattress for 4 years. Still feels the same. It's heavy as hell to move, though.
Forgot to mention,I'm a side sleeper so the latex plus topper combo works for me. If you're a back sleeper, you might not need the topper.
Have you considered an adjustable base? Not a mattress, but it might help distribute weight differently. Also, rotate your mattress regularly. My last one lasted longer because I flipped it every 3 months.
Rotation is key,I agree. I did that with the last one but it still gave out. The latex and Big Fig suggestions are helpful. I'm leaning towards trying latex next. That Dunlop one sounds promising. How's the motion transfer on latex? My wife is a light sleeper.
