My partner and I are both around 250 lbs. We're moving in together and need a new mattress. I keep reading that heavier couples need something more supportive, but I'm not sure where to start. Is it actually possible for two people our size to sleep comfortably on one mattress without it sagging or feeling like we're rolling into each other? Any real-life experiences would be helpful.
Can two 250 lb people sleep on the same mattress comfortably
we're both in that range. I'd say yes, but you need to pick the mattress carefully. Cheap memory foam was a disaster for us, sagged in the middle after a year. Got a hybrid with coils and it's been solid for two years now.
Define comfortably. My back hurts just thinking about it.
Ha, fair. I mean we don't wake up in a pit. That's comfort enough for me.
I'm 260 and my wife is 240. We have a king size firm latex mattress. No sagging, but it's not plush. Took a couple weeks to adjust. I'd say avoid anything with a thick pillow top, it just compresses unevenly.
We're not quite that heavy but have you considered separate beds? Not trying to be rude, just saying some couples sleep better that way
Separate beds defeats the purpose for us, but I get it. We actually got an adjustable base so we can each tilt a bit. Helps with pressure.
adjustable base? fancy. Next you'll tell me you have a mattress that dispenses coffee.
The main thing is check the weight limits. Some mattresses have a max weight per side. We ignored that and ruined a cheap one. Also rotate it every few months.
Didn't even think about weight limits. I'll look that up. And rotating makes sense.
Also, if you're both hot sleepers, latex or hybrid with cooling gel. Memory foam can get swampy.
Second the heat thing. We got a wool topper and it helped a lot. Also, don't skimp on the foundation. A flimsy box spring will kill any mattress.
Just make sure you can return it. Some places have restocking fees but at least you can try.
And don't buy online without testing if you can. We ordered a bed-in-a-box and it was way too soft for us.
Or just lose some weight? Kidding. Mostly.
