I'm 6'3 and around 260lbs. Got a memory foam mattress about two years ago and the center is still great - no sagging at all. But the edges? If I sit on the side to put socks on it's like sitting on a marshmallow. Sleeping near the edge feels like I'm going to slide off. Is this just a foam mattress thing or did I buy the wrong one?
My mattress is fine in the middle but terrible around the edges
Foam beds are notorious for weak edges. It's not just you. The foam compresses at the perimeter because there's no coil system to push back.
Weird that the middle is fine though. My old foam mattress sagged everywhere after 18 months. Did you rotate it?
I'm about 240 and had the same complaint. Switched to a hybrid with reinforced edge coils and it was night and day. You can actually sit on the side without feeling like you're in quicksand.
lol the marshmallow comparison is accurate. I nearly faceplanted putting on shoes once.
OP, have you checked the warranty? Edge break down might count as a defect if it's excessive. Two years seems early.
@coffeeandcrumbs exactly. Coils do the heavy lifting on the perimeter. Foam just kind of gives up.
I'm not even heavy heavy (170) and my all-foam bed has the same issue. So it's not purely a weight thing. Though at 260 I imagine you notice it more.
Adding to my earlier point: also check if your bed frame is the right size.If the mattress is slightly undersized for the frame you'll feel the edge collapse faster because it's unsupported. Happened to me.
Honestly, just avoid sitting on the edge. Problem solved. But sleeping near it? No advice there, commiserations.
I haven't rotated it, no. And the frame is a standard box spring, maybe that's part of it. Warranty says "normal softening" isn't covered, whatever that means.
"Normal softening" is their favorite phrase. Worth pushing back though if the edge is that bad after two years
