My mattress is pushed right against the wall, should I move it?

So my bedroom is tiny and the only way my queen mattress fits is with one side flush against the wall. I'm a bigger guy (around 270 lbs) and I've noticed the edge on that side feels a bit softer lately. Is this because it's against the wall? Should I move it out a couple inches even if it means losing floor space? Or am I overthinking it?

You're not not overthinking it. Edge support breaks down faster if you're always pushing off the wall side to get up. But a couple inches won't fix that if the mattress already has weak edges. What brand is it?

Mine's been against the wall for 3 years. No issues. But I'm 150 lbs soaking wet, so probably irrelevant. 😂

SarcasmAndSprinkles

Move the wall. Easier than moving the mattress.

If the edge feels softer, it's probably because you're putting more weight on it when you get in and out, not because it's touching the wall. The wall doesn't squish the foam. But yeah, a few inches of breathi ng room can help with airflow and prevent mildew if your wall gets cold. I'd pull it out like 2-3 inches if you can.

Airflow point is solid. Also check if your bed frame has a center support. At 270 you might be sagging the middle and that makes the edges feel worse by comparison.

I had the same setup and moved mine out about 4 inches. Honestly didn't help the edge softness at all, but it did stop my comforter from getting that weird musty smell from the wall. So, mixed results.

Wait, musty smell? That's a thing? Now I'm paranoid.

FrostbiteFilly

Only if your wall gets condensation or you live in a humid climate. Don't panic. But yeah, a small gap helps.
