My mattress sinks too much when I sit on it

Not sure if this is normal or if I'm just too heavy for this thing. Every time I sit on the edge to put socks on, it feels like I'm sliding into a crater. I weigh around 280 lbs. The mattress is like 3 years old, some memory foam from Amazon. Does this happen to anyone else or is my mattress just done?

Sitting on the edge is brutal for foam beds, regardless of weight. All the pressure is on a tiny area. But at 3 years for a cheap Amazon foam? Probably already softened up a lot.

lol same. I'm 250 and my old mattress had a permanent butt denxt. I just flipped it and called it a day.

Could be the foam breaking down. Memory foam especially tends to soften where you sit the most. Do you rotate it? Also check if it's sagging in the middle, not just the edge.

PixelatedCactus

Haven't rotated it at all, honestly. Didn't know you were supposed to with these. There's a bit of a dip in the center too but the edge is way wirse.

Three years for an Amazon foam mattress at 280 lbs is actually pretty decent. Most of those are rated for like 250 max anyway. Might be time to look at something with a higher density foam or coils.

Yeah and don't bother trying to 'fix' it with a topper. You'll just sink through the topper into the crater, feels even weirder.

My partner weighs less than me and our mattress still sinks on the edge. I think they just build them that way now.

Butt dent solidarity. Seriously though, if it's sagging in the middle too it's probably not going to get better. I'd start shopping.
