Folding Beds

Would a rug underneath a folding bed make it more stable?

I have a folding bed that I use for guests, and it tends to slide a bit on my hardwood floor. I was thinking about putting a rug underneath it to add some friction. Would that actually make it more stable, or could it cause other issues? I'm around 250 lbs and want to make sure it's safe.

A rug can help with sliding, but it might also compress unevenly under weight, which could make the bed feel less stable. I'd look for a rug with a non-slip backing and maybe a pad underneath.

I tried a rug under my folding bed and it slid even more. The rug itself moved on the hardwood. Had to get a rug gripper

Have you checked if the bed frame has adjustable feet or glides? Sometimes replacing those with rubber ones helps more than a rug. Also, consider the rug thickness—too thick and the bed Might not fold properly.

I weigh about 230 and use a folding bed occasionally. I put a thin, rubber-backed mat under it, and it's been fine. But I wouldn't use a plush rug because it could cause the legs to sink and make it wobbly.

Thanks for the input. I do have some rubber glides on the legs, but they seem worn. Maybe I should replace those first.

Replacing glides is a good start. Also, if the floor is slick, a rug with a dense rubber backing can add friction, but make sure it doesn't bunch up. I'd avoid anything too thick.

Another thing: if the bed folds, a rug might interfere with the folding mechanism if it's in the way. Just something to consider.

I agree with checking the glides. Also, you might want to put a stopper or a piece of non-slip material under each leg rather than a full rug. That could be more effective and less hassle.

If you do go with a rug, test it out with the bed folded and unfolded to make sure it doesn't create a tripping hazard or affect the bed's stability when you get in and out.

Good point about testing it folded. I'll probably try replacing the glides first and see if that solves the sliding. If not, I'll look into a thin rubber mat.
