Can two people weighing 280 lbs each use a queen mattress

My partner and I are both around 280 lbs. We're looking at a queen mattress but worried about sagging or feeling like we're rolling into each other. Anyone have real experience with two heavy sleepers on a queen? Is it doable or should we go king?

Queen is going to be tight. My husband and I are about 250 each and we tried a queen for a year. It wasn't just the mattress sagging, it was the lack of space. We constantly bumped into each other.

Depends on the mattress construction. A cheap queen will fail fast. You need something with a high coil count and dense foam. But even then, a queen gives each person only 30 inches of width. At 280, that's not much.

We're both around 270 and have a queen. It's fine for us, but we have a latex mattress that's firm. No sagging after two years. But we are side sleepers and don't move much.

I'd worry more about the foundation. A queen frame with two heavy people can squeak and flex. Make sure you have a solid base.

Just get a king. The extra width is worth it. We went from queen to king and it saved our sleep. You won't regret it.

Also consider the edge support. On a queen, you'll both be near the edges. If the edge support is weak, you'll feel like you're sliding off.

Thanks for the input. We do have a solid platform bed. The king might not fit in our room though. We have about 60 inches of width available. A king is 76 inches wide. So queen is the max.

Then you'll need to prioritize durability. Look for mattresses with a weight limit per side. Some brands list it. Also, consider a mattress with zoned support, so the middle doesn't sag.

If you're limited to queen, maybe look into a split queen? They're two twin XLs together, but that doesn't help with width. Actually, a split queen is the same width. Never mind.

You could also rotate the mattress regularly. That helps with sagging. And use a mattress protector to keep it clean, but that's obvious.

60 inches? That's tight. Maybe you can rearrange the room? A king is 76. You need at least 6 inches on each side for walking. So you'd need 88 inches. If ypu have 60, queen is 60 wide exactly. So you have zero clearance. You'll be squeezing.

TumbleweedSally

Wait, a queen is 60 inches wide. So if you have exactly 60 inches, the mattress will touch both walls. That's not practical. You need some space. Maybe a full? No, full is smaller. You might need to reconsider the room layout.

I measured again. We have 64 inches between the walls. So a queen would leave 2 inches on each side. That's doable but tight. We'll probably go with a queen and focus on a firm, high-quality mattress. Thanks everyone.

Good luck. Just make sure you can return it if it doesn't work out. Many online brands have sleep trials.
