I found a latex mattress with a natural top layer and blended lower layers

So I'm 6'3" and about 280 lbs. Been hunting for a mattress that won't turn into a hammock by month six. Found a latex one that has a natural Dunlop top layer (3 inches) and blended Talalay lower layers. Feels supportive in the store but I'm worried the blended part might not hold up. Anyone have experience with this kind of construction for heavier sleepers? Or am I overthinking it?

QuantumTaco

Blended latex is still latex. The synthetic part actually adds durability in some cases. I think you're fine as long as the ILD is on the firmer Side.

GravyBoatCaptain

I'm 250 and slept on a similar setup for 3 years. The natural top felt great but started dipping where my hips are. Replaced it with all Dunlop. Just my two cents.

How thick is the wole mattress? If it's under 9 inches I'd be cautious. Also what's the density on the blended layers? That matters more than natural vs synthetic imo.

QuantumTaco

Yeah density is key. My previous blended latex was 4.5 lb/ft3 and held up great.

Overthinking it. You found something that feels good in the store—buy it. Worst case you add a topper in a couple years.

GravyBoatCaptain

That's what I did and now I'm out an extra $300 for a topper plus the original cost. Should've just bought the firmer one upfront.

PecanSandies

Shrug. Everyone's body is different. FeralSundae has a point, but also GravyBoatCaptain's experience is real. OP what's the return policy?

CopperKettle77

90 days, but there's a $99 restocking fee. And it's 10 inches total. Density on the blended layers is 4.2 lb.

FeralSundae

4.2 is decent. I'd say go for it. That restocking fee is low enough that it's not a huge risk.
