Hey all, I'm a bigger guy (around 280) and my current memory foam mattress has a nasty habit of swallowing me when I try to roll over. I wake up multiple times a night just to change sides, and it's exhausting. I need something that supports my weight but lets me move freely without that stuck-in-mud feeling. Any recommendations? I'm side sleeper mostly.
I need a mattress that doesn't make me feel stuck when changing sides
Memory foam is the worst for that.Look into a latex hybrid or a pocket coil with a thin comfort layer. You'll get pushback instead of sink.
I'm 250 and switched to a Saatva classic (firm) last year. Not stuck at all. But it took like 3 weeks to break in and not feel like a board. Worth it though.
Have you tried sleeping on the floor? Zero stuck feeling. Just saying.
Floor is a no-go for my hips. But the la tex hybrid idea sounds promising. Any specific brands that don't cost a fortune?
I second latex. I have a Sleep on Latex medium and it's bouncy enough to move but still supportive. I'm 300 lbs and it's holding up well after 18 months.
Sleep on Latex is decent for the price. Also consider Arizona Premium Mattress — they sell DIY latex layers. If you're handy, you can customize the firmness. But their customer service is hit or miss.
Just get a sleep number and set it to 100. Feels like a rock. No stuck. But also no comfort.
Honestly, the motion transfer thing is huge for heavy folks. Pocket coils + latex on top is the way. Avoid anything with more than 2 inches of memory foam.
Or just get a hammock. Seriously though, have you considered an adjustable base? Not for the stuck feeling, but for changing positions without effort.
Adjustable base is out of budget for now. I'll check out Sleep on Latex and Arizona Premium. Thanks for the pointers. Anyone trie the Avocado mattress? They seem popular.
Avocado is nice but the latex is quite firm. Might be too firm foor side sleeping at your weight. They have a pillow top version though.
Avocado's customer service has been iffy lately. Also their return policy changed. Do your homework.
