I'm around 270 lbs and looking at the Bear Elite Hybrid. The specs say it supports up to 1000 lbs, but I'm wondering if anyone around my size has actually slept on one for a while. How's the edge support and does it sag after a year or two?
Is the Bear Elite Hybrid good for bigger bodies
I'm 240 and tried it in a store. Felt supportive but the edge was kinda soft. Can't speak to long term though.
My brother is 310 and has had his for about 18 months. No sagging so far, but he rotates it every few months. He did say the edge support is not great if you sit right on the corner.
Honestly, for 270 you might want to look at something with a higher density foam core. Bear is decent but there are better options for heavy sleepers. Just my two cents, though.
What's your sleeping position? That matters a lot. If you're a side sleeper, the Elite Hybrid might be too firm for you at that weight.
Mostly side and back. I liked that it has a firmer feel but still some cushion.
Side sleeper at 270? You might sink through the comfort layer. I'd look for something with a thicker transition foam. Bear's isn't that thick.
I'm 285, and have the Bear Elite Hybrid firm. It's held up fine for 8 months. Edge support is meh but I don't sit on the edge much. For the price it's okay.
@GingerSnapzz how's the motion transfer? My wife is a light sleeper and I toss a lot.
Not bad actually. Better than my old innerspring. But I'm not a huge tosser.
If you're set on Bear, get the firm. The medium will likely feel too soft for your weight. Also check their return plicy – 120 nights but you pay shipping back if you return.
Also consider the Titan from Brooklyn Bedding. It's built for bigger folks and costs less. I'm 260 and love mine.
Thanks everyone. I'll check out the Titan too. Probably going to order the Bear firm and see how it goes with the trial.
