My mattress feels like a hammock after two years

I'm about 280 lbs and bought a memory foam mattress two years ago. Now there's a visible dip where I sleep and it feels like I'm lying in a hammock. My back is killing me. Is this normal for heavy sleepers? Did I just get a bad mattress or is this just what happens?

Two years is about right for a lot of foam beds with heavier weights. The foam softens and compresses. It's not really a defect, just the naature of the material. A latex hybrid might hold up longer for you.

I had the same issue with a popular bed-in-a-box. Started sagging around 18 months. I'm 260. I rotated it every few months buut it didn't help much. Ended up getting a firm innerspring with a latex topper.

What brand? Some have better warranties for body indentations. But honestly at 280 you might need something with more support layers.

Yeah, check the warranty. Most cover sagging over 1.5 inches. But even then they might replace with the same model that will do the same thing.

Latex is the way to go if you want durability. It's more expensive but it won't collapse like foam. I'm 300 and my latex mattress is going on 6 years with no dip.

Agree on latex. But also make sure the foundation is solid. A weak slat base can make any mattress sag prematurely.

Did you use a box spring? Memory foam usually needs a flat, firm base. If you had it on an old box spring that could be part of the problem.

It's on a solid platform bed. Brand is one of those online ones. I'll look into latex options. Thanks for the input.
