Mattress Sizing

What's the best mattress size if you're tall and weigh over 300 lbs?

I'm 6'5" and around 320 lbs. Currently on a queen but feel like I'm running out of room, especially with my wife in the bed too. Is king the way to go, or should I look at something even bigger like a Texas king? Also worried about support at this weight, any specific brand recs? Budget is flexible but not infinite.

Texas king? That's not a mattress, that's a small country. But honestly, at your size, a standard king is the minimum. Queen with two people is already tight, add 6'5" and 320? You need space.

I'm 6'3" 280 and we went from queen to king last year. Game changer. But for 320, you might wanna check weight limits. Most standard kings are rated for like 500-600 lbs total, so you and your wife should be fine. Just make sure the foundation is solid.

I'm 6'6" 350. I got a Big Fig king. It's built for heavier folks and has a 1000 lb weight limit. No sagging after 2 years. Not cheap but worth it.

Have you considered sleeping diagonally? I'm 6'2" and that's what I do on a queen. Saves money on a new mattress. Just kidding... mostly.

King size is 76x80. If you're 6'5", that's 77 inches. So your feet will hang off the end unless you sleep curled up. You might want a California king (72x84) for the extra length. But it's narrower. Trade-off tbh.

Cal king is narrower than a standard king? That's a dealbreaker if you have a partner. I'd rather have the width and just deal with feet hanging off. Or get a custom size. But who has that money?

MattressMaven88

Actually, Cal king is 72 wide vs 76 for standard king. So yeah, 4 inches narrower. But 4 inches longer. For tall folks, that might be worth it. But if you're both broad, it could feel cramped.

SleepyGiant

I tried a Cal king once. Felt like sleeping in a canoe. Too narrow for two people. Stick with standard king and maybe get a bed extender? They exist for tall people.

SarcasticOwl

Bed extender? Like for a truck? Just get a bigger bed frame and a custom mattress. Or sleep in a recliner. I hear those are comfy.

PracticalPat

Custom mattresses are expensive but might be the only real solution. Or look into an Alaskan king (9x9 feet). That That's huge but might fit your needs. Need a big room though.

RandomNerd42

Alaskan king is 108x108. That's almost a square. You could sleep in any direction. But good luck finding sheets. And your bedroom better be massive.

GrumpyBear

All this talk about size, but no one mentioned the the foundation. At 320 lbs, you need a heavy-duty frame. A flimsy box spring will break. Get a platform bed with slats or a solid base.
