So I've had my Purple 3 for about 25 months now. I'm 6'2" and around 280 lbs. The past few months I've noticed a pretty significant dip where my hips go, and I wake up with lower back pain that I didn't have before. I rotate the mattress every 3-4 months like they suggest. Called customer service and they gave me the runaround about "normal softening" and needing to measure the indentation while unloaded. But when I lie down, it's obvious. Anyone else had this happen around the two-year mark? Specifically heavier folks?
Anyone had their Purple mattress sag after two years
I'm not your size but I lurk here because my husband is 250+. Following this thread. He's been eyeing a Purple but I keep telling him the grid might not hold up for bigger guys long-term. Hope you get some real answers.
Purple's warranty is a joke for heavy sleepers. They require a visible indentation of 1 inch or more measured without any weight on it. The foam grid bounces back enough that you'll rarely hit that threshold even if it feels collapsed under you. I went through this with a different brand and eventually gave up.
That's exactly what i'm worried about. The rep told me to put a straight edge across it and measure the gap. But when I get up, it's basically flat again after a minute. Meanwhile sleeping on it feels like a hammock now.
25 months and already sagging? That's rough. I've had mone three years, I'm about 200 lbs, and it's still fine. Maybe the weight is the difference. Or maybe quality control is just all over the place.
Also worth checking: is it on a proper foundation? Slats too far apart or a weak box spring will make any mattress sag faster. Not saying that's your issue, but it's the first thing they'll ask.
"Normal softening" is such a scam phrase. They mean "we know it's beraking down but it's not broken enough to replace."
It's on a solid platform base, so that's not it. I did the whole checklist before calling. Honestly the most frustrating part is that the mattress feels fine for the first hour and then progressively worse through the night. By morning it's a trench, though.
That progression is the worst. My husband's old mattress did that—felt great at bedtime and then he'd wake up miserable. He ended up going with a latex hybrid instead and it's been way better for his weight. Not cheap though.
One more thought: did you buy directly from Purple or through a retailer? Some retailers have their own return/exchange windows that are more generous than the manufacturer warranty. Might be worth a call if you're outside Purple's easy-return period.
Sag after two years for a premium mattress is unacceptable. I'd push back harder. Ask for a supervisor, cite the back pain, mention you're a heavier sleeper and the grid is clearly compressing. Worst they can say is no, and you've already got the no.
