Does buying from a retailer make warranty claims easier?

I'm about 280 lbs and need a new mattress. I'm torn between buying from a big retailer (like Mattress Firm) vs online (like Titan or Big Fig). One thing I keep wondering: if something goes wrong and I need to file a warranty claim, is it actually easier if I bought from a physical retailer? Or is that a myth? I don't want to save a few bucks online only to get stuck in warranty hell.

I've bought from a local retailer and online. Honestly, the retailer was easier for the initial return/exchange, but warranty claims still went through the manufacturer. So you're not really bypassing anything.

Most warranties are handled by the manufacturer, not the store. The store might help you file it, but they don't decide. So it's more about the manufacturer's reputation than where you bought it.

I think it depends. Some retailers have their own satisfaction guarantees that are separate from the manufacturer warranty. Those can be easier to use, but they usually have a time limit.

Big Fig has a pretty solid warranty for heavy sleepers. I'd check their terms. I didn't buy from a retailer and my claim was painless. Took some photos and they sent a new cover.

The real question is whether the retailer will go to batt for you if the manufacturer gives you trouble. Some do, some don't. I've heard horror stories about both. It's a crapshoot.

I worked at a mattress store for a year. The warranty is always through the manufacturer. The store might handle the paperwork, but they don't have any special power. In fact, some stores charge a processing fee for warranty claims. So no, not easier.

I'd rather buy online and deal directly with the company. Less middleman BS.

I bought a Big Fig through a retailer and when I had a sagging issue, the retailer just told me to call Big Fig. So it was the same as buying online. But at least I could go yell at someone in person, lol.

Theres also the issue of who pays for shipping on warranty replacements. Sometimes retailers cover it, sometimes not. Read the fine print.

So the consensus seems to be that the retailer doesn't magically make warranty claims easier, but it might vary. I'm leaning towards online now, but I'll double-check the return policy just in case.
