So I'm a bigger guy (around 280) and I've got a decent mattress, but lately I've been crashing on top of my made bed for afternoon naps instead of getting under the covers. It's like the extra layers of blanket and comforter actually help distribute my weight better? Anyone else do this or am I just weird?
I take afternoon naps on top of my normal bedding
Not weird at all. I do it because I'm too lazy to pull the covers back. But yeah, a thick quilt topper does add a little cushion tbh.
You're basically creating a makeshift pillow top. If it works, it works. Just don't be surprised when your fitted sheet starts stretching out faster.
How long are these naps? If you're sweating into your comforter every afternoon that's a whole other issue.
Like 30-45 min usually. No sweat issues so far, but summer might change that.
I used to do this until I realized I was just avoiding washing my sheets as often. No judgment.
Wait, are you saying the blankets are a barrier so you don't have to wash the sheets? That's actually kind of genius and gross at the same time.
If you're heavy enough that the mattress feels too firm, a proper mattress topper (latex or high-density foam) will do way more than folded blankets. Blankets compress flat after a few naps. Just my two cents.
I'm 250 and I nap on top of a weighted blanket sometimes. It's like a hug. Probably terrible for my spine but I don't care.
Wait, on top of a weighted blanket? That's a lot of pressure on your shoulders if you're a side sleeper. Be careful.
Honestly the the real question is why you're making your bed every day just to nap on it. Just leave it unmade like a normal person.
Habit, I guess. My mom always made her bed. Can't break it.
Making your bed just to nap on top of it is peak chaotic good. Respect.
Try a cheap egg crate foam topper under the comforter for a week. If it doesn't help, return it. But honestly if the blanket stack works forr you, don't overthink it.
Egg crate foam is the worst suggestion I've seen on this forum in a while. That stuff breaks down in months for a heavy sleeper. At least least go for a 2-inch memory foam topper if you're gonna spend anything.
