Sleep Comfort

I sleep with my feet outside the covers but hate having cold ankles

Alright, this is a weird one. I've tried every combo of socks, blankets, and thermostat settings. But no matter what, if my feet are under the covers I feel claustrophobic, and if they're out, my ankles freeze. I'm a bigger guy, so maybe that's part of it? I need a mattress that somehow keeps my feet cool but my ankles warm. Or maybe I just need therapy. Anyone else deal with this nonsense?

This is the most specific sleep problem I've ever read. Have you tried ankle warmers? Like, just cut the toes off some thick socks.

Big guy here too. I solved this by getting a longer mattress so my feet hang off but my ankles stay on the mattress edge. The edge of the bed holds the covers up just enough. Maybe you need a mattress with a firmer edge support so the blanket doesn't collapse on your feet.

Honestly? Just wear one of those ankle braces or a compression sleeve. Not a full sock. It's the only thing that worke for me. Not glamorous but neither is waking up at 3am with ice blocks for ankles.

Wait, you're a heavy sleeper or a heavy person? Because those are two different problems. If you're a big guy, the mattress is gonna sink where you put your weight. If your feet are off the edge, the mattress might be tilting. A hybrid with zoned support could help keep your ankles level with your body, so the blanket doesn't slide off.

VelvetOtter

TaterTotTornado that's basically what I said but with more words. Ankle warmers. Cut the toes off. Done.

Your problem isn't the mattress. It's the blanket. Get a longer blanket so it drapes over your feet and ankles while your toes stick out. Or a weighted blanket just on your ankles. I don't know, man. I sleep like a normal person.

NocturnalSquid

SuspiciousCarrot I tried the weighted ankle thing. It works until you kick it off in your sleep. Then you're back to frozen ankles. The mattress edge support thing actually held up better. I have a Brooklyn Bedding Titan or something. It's built for bigger folks. The edge doesn't collapse.

Socks with the toes cut off. That's it. That's the answer. You're all overthinking this.

TaterTotTornado

PantsOnFire42 I tried that. The sock rolls down in the middle of the night. Compression sleeve stays put. But you do you.

Honestly if you're a heavy sleeper, the best mattress for you isn't going to fix your ankle temperature. That's a blanket/sock problem. But a firm mattress with good edge support will at least stop you from rolling into the gap between the bed and the wall when you kick your feet out.

I ordered a compression sleeve for my ankle and a longer blanket. If that doesn't work I'm just gonna duct tape a hot water bottle to my calf. Thanks for the mattress edge support tips, I'll look into the Titan.
