Cooling

I'm 300 lbs and can't stay cool through the night

Alright, so I'm a bigger guy (around 300 lbs) and I sweat through my sheets like it's my job. I've tried "cooling" bamboo sheets that felt like plastic, a gel memory foam topper that turned into a heat pad by 2am, and sleeping with a fan pointed right at me. Still wake up drenched. I need a mattress that actually sleeps cool for someone my size, not just marketing fluff. Any real-world suggestions? Bonus points if it doesn't cost a kidney.

Latex. Specifically a Dunlop latex mattress with a wool cover. I'm 6'4" 290 and switched from memory foam last year. Best decision. It's springy so you don't sink in and roast. Costco sometimes has them online, or Sleep on Latex if you want a smaller brand. Not cheap but not Tempur-Pedic expensive either.

Have you checked your room temp? Not trying to be a smartass but a lot of people crank the heat and then blame the mattress. We keep ours at 66 and I still run hot but it helped.

I second latex but be careful with thick wool covers if youre a sweaty sleeper—wool is breathable but some people find it itchy. Also, get a mattress with coils, not just foam. Coils let air move. Pure foam of any kind traps heat. Hybrid with latex on top is probably your sweet spot.

Have you tried a chiliPad or Ooler? It's a water-cooled mattress pad. My husband is 310, and it changed his life. They're pricey and you need to keep the reservoir filled but he doesn't wake up sweating anymore.

Those are $600+ though. OP said no kidney. But yeah I've heard good things.

I'm 320 and have a Brooklyn Bedding Aurora. It's a hybrid with a phase change cover. Not perfect but way cooler than my old all-foam. Side note: get a breathable mattress protector, not the waterproof vinyl kind. That's like sleeping in a ziplock bag.

Also wash your sheets in cold water and skip fabric softener. Softener clogs the fibers and kills breathability. Learned that one the hard way.

Appreciate the latex and coil suggestions. The chiliPad thing is tempting but I'd rather not spend that much. How do you know if a hybrid is actually breathable or if it's just marketing? Like is there a spec I should look for?
