We upgraded from a full to a king because my husband is a big guy and we both needed more room. Now making the bed feels like a workout. I have to walk around three sides just to get the sheets straight, and the fitted sheet corners on the far side are a nightmare. Is this just me, or is a wider mattress genuinely harder to make every morning? Seriously considering going back to a queen.
Is a wider mattress harder to make every morning?
It's not just you. I have a king and making it is the worst part of my day. The far corner is basically a myth.
I think the issue is mostly the fitted sheet. Once it's on, the rest is fine. But getting that last corner on a king when you're short is brutal.
We have a California king and I gave up on walking around. I just crawl across the mattress to do the far side. Looks ridiculous but it works.
Crawling across is actually genius. Might try that tomorrow.
Getting a king was the best decision for sleep and the worst forr bed making. I switched to a duvet with a cover and stopped using a top sheet. That cut the time in half. Fitted sheet is still annoying though.
We just don't make the bed anymore. Problem solved.
@not_a_morning_person I wish. My wife would not go for that.
I'm 6'4" and 280. We have a king and my wife is 5'2". She does the bed making and complains constantly. I've started helping just because I feel bad. Honestly ths width is the problem, not the length. Reaching across is hard for her.
My advice: get a mattress lifter or those sheet clips. Doesn't fix the walking around but helps with corners.
Sheet clips are a game changer. Also, some brands make deeper pocket sheets that go on easier. Worth checking.
Thanks everyone. I'll try the crawl and the clips before we downgrade. Glad I'm not alone.
The real trick is a fitted sheet with elastic all the way around, not just corners. Makes a big difference on a king.
Also, if you can, pull the bed out from the wall a few inches. Gives you just enough room to squeeze behind.
A few inches doesn't help when the frame is heavy. That's a two person job.
Who has time to pull a bed out every morning? Just leave the sheets loose and call it rustic.
I think a king is worth the hassle for the sleep quality. My husband is a big guy too and we'd never go back to a queen.
