Is the massage feature on an adjustable bed worth paying extra for?

I'm looking at adjustable beds and the massage feature adds about $400 to the price. I'm a heavier guy (around 280 lbs) and I'm wondering if the massage actually helps with pressure points or if it's just a gimmick that will break down. Anyone have real experience with this?

I've had the massage on my adjustable for two years. It's okay but I rarely use it. The vibration is mild. For heavy sleepers, the motors might wear out faster.

My husband is about your size and we got the massage feature. He says it helps his lower back after work, but honestly the intensity is weak. If you want real relief, a separate massager might be better. We paid extra and I regret it a little.

Skip it. Put that $400 toward a better mattress. The massage is just a vibration motor, nothing like a real massage. And on a heavy body it's even less noticeable, though.

I disagree with the others. I'm 250 lbs and the massage feature has been great for my circulation. I use it every night for 15 minutes before sleep. It's not a deep tissue massage but it relaxes me. Worth it for me.

What brand? Some have better motors than others. The cheap ones die quick with heavier folks.

LunaStarlight

Mine is a Leggett & Platt. Not the cheapest but the motors have held up.

I've never understood the appeal. It just buzzes. Maybe if you have poor circulaion it's different. For pressure points, changing the bed angle does more than the massage.

Trucker_Dan

Yeah the angle adjustment is the real benefit. Massage is secondary.

Also consider the noise. Ours isn't loud but it's not silent either. If you're a light sleeper or have a partner, that could matter.

mountain_mike

Good point. And if you're heavy, the vibration might transfer through the frame and be louder.

I'd test it in the store if you can. Lie on it with the massage on. See if you can even feel it through the mattress.

Thanks everyone. I think I'll skip the massage and put the money into a higher quality mattress. Appreciate the input.

Smart move. Let us know what you end up with.
