So I hired a mattress cleaner for my heavy-duty bed because I'm a big guy and the thing gets gross. Guy shows up with this machine I've never seen, looks like a cross between a vacuum and a pressure washer with a UV light wand. He said it's a 'dry steam extraction' system or something. He didn't soak the mattress at all, just ran this thing over it and the water tank came out looking like coffee. Has anyone else had this? Is it legit or was he just winging it?
My mattress cleaner used a machine I had never seen before
Dry steam extraction? That's a new one. Most guys around here just use a standard extractor and call it a day. Did he leave the mattress wet? Because if he didn't, that's actually a plus.
Sounds like a thermal extraction unit. They're real. Basically heats the water to steam, blasts it in, and sucks it right back out. Less water than regular carpet cleaning. I've seen them used on upholstery but not usually mattresses.
I wouldn't let anyone run a pressure washer near my mattress, steam or not. That's just me though.
Wait, a UV light wand? Did he actually use it or was it just for show? Half these guys carry gadgets to look professional.
He did use it. Ran it slowly over the surface after the steam part. Said it kills dust mites. No idea if that's true but the mattress did smell way better.
UV-C does kill stuff but only if it's strong enough and you hold it close. Most handheld wands are borderline placebo. But hey, if it smells better, who cares.
The coffee-colored water is normal. That's just years of ssweat, skin cells, and dust mite poop. Congrats, you were sleeping on a science experiment.
I second that. I cleaned my own mattress with a rented extractor and the water was basically black. Never again will I skip cleaning.
You guys are making me never want to sleep again.
So did he charge extra for the fancy machine? Because if he did, you might have paid for a light show.
Nah,same price as the last guy who used a regular machine. That's partly why I was suspicious.
Then he probably just upgraded his gear. Some guys invest in better equipment to stand out. I wouldn't overthink it.
Or he's new and trying to impress people. Either way, if the mattress is clean and dry, you're good.
Actually, now I'm curious. OP, did he show you the tank before he dumped it? Because that's the real proof.
