Heavy Sleepers

My mattress is two years old and I'm still glad I bought it

I'm about 280 lbs and spent months agonizing over mattress choices. Ended up with a Titan Luxe after reading way too many reviews. Two years later, it still hasn't sagged where I sleep, and my back pain is basically gone. I know people say heavy sleepers need to replace mattresses more often, but this one seems to be holding up fine. Curious if others have had similar luck with their picks.

Two years isn't that long, honestly. Most mattresses should last that long regardless of weight. The real test is years 4-6.

I'm around 250 and had a totally different experience with a popular bed-in-a-box. It started dipping at the 18-month mark. Maybe I just got a lemon, but it's made me skeptical of the whole online mattress thing. What made you go with Titan?

mossy_boulder

Did you rotate it at all? I've heard that helps a lot with heavier sleepers.

copperkettle_42

I rotate it every three months or so. Forgot to mention that. And I use a waterproof mattress protector, mostly because I sweat a lot at night.

frugal_nickel

Rotating helps, but for heavy folks it's often the foundation that fails first. What base are you using? I went through two box springs before switching to a slatted frame.

I'm not a heavy sleeper but my partner is, and we ended up with a hybrid because of him. It's been fine so far, about a year in. The edge support is what surprised me most, it hasn't collapsed.

Did you consider a latex mattress at any point? I've read they hold up better for heavier people, but the price is steep.

copperkettle_42

Latex was on my list, but the cost put me off. I also wasn't sure about the feel, I'd never tried one in person. The Titan seemed like a safer bet with the trial period.

SableNights

Trial periods are nice, but returning a mattress is such a hassle. I'd rather just pick right the first time.

That's why I went with a local store for my current one. Could actually lie on it for 20 minutes. The guy there told me to avoid memory foam entirely at my weight. Not sure if that's universal advice though.

mossy_boulder

Memory foam gets soft when it warms up, so heavier bodies sink more. That's been my experience anyway.

Also check the warranty. Some brands prorate it or require a certain amount of Sag before they'll do anything. I learned that the hard way.

Two years and still good is a win in my book. My last mattress was a hand-me-down and it was basically a hammock by the end.

pixel_pusher

Do you sleep hot on it? That was my main issue with The foam beds I tried.

copperkettle_42

It does sleep a bit warm, but not worse than my old innerspring. I just use lighter sheets in the summer.

SableNights

Honestly, I think we overthink mattress shopping. Most of them are fine for a few years. It's the long haul that's hard to predict.
