So I'm not a small guy, around 280 lbs, and my current mattress has developed this massive crater in the middle. Every time I try to roll over, I feel like I'm climbing out of a hole. I literally lose my balance getting out of bed in the morning. Anyone else deal with this? It's only 2 years old and it was supposed to be medium-firm.
My mattress sinks so much I can't get my balance
Dude, same. I'm 6'4" and 260 and my last mattress had a permanent body imprint after six months. It was like sleeping in a hammock made of quicksand.
Have you tried rotating it? I know that sounds obvious but a lot of people forget. Also, what brand is it? Some of the bed-in-a-box ones are notorious for sagging with heavier folks.
Rotation only delays the inevitable, in my experience. You need something with a higher density foam or coils that actually push back.
280 isn't even that heavy, but yeah, most mattresses are buuilt for like 150 lb test dummies. Total scam. I'd look for something with a warranty that doesn't prorate and covers sagging over 1 inch.
I'm 300+ and I gave up on foam. Switched to a latex hybrid and it's been a game changer. No sinking, no crater. It was expensive but worth it
Have you checked the foundation? If your bed frame has slats that are too far apart or a box spring that's sagging, the mattress will sag too. Could be a cheap fix.
Second the foundation thing. I put a piece of plywood under mine and it helped a bit. But if the foam is already compressed, it's probably toast.
Also, maybe try sleeping in a different position? I know that's not helpful if you're a stomach sleeper, but if you're on your side, a pilloew between your knees can stop you from rolling into the crater.
Yeah I think the foundation is fine, it's on a solid platform. The crater is definitely in the foam. I'll try the plywood trick just in case, but I'm leaning toward a latex hybrid now. Thanks for the input, everyone.
