I'm about 280 lbs and ordered the Saatva HD in medium-firm after reading it's built for heavier folks. Got it two weeks ago and it already feels way softer than the floor model I tried. I sink in more than I'd like, especially around the hips. Is this normal break-in, or did I get a dud? Anyone else had this issue?
My Saatva HD feels softer than expected
Two weeks is still early. Most foam-top beds soften up a bit in the first month. Give it another couple weeks before you panic.
Saatva HD medium-firm is still pretty plush on top IMO. If you're a side sleeper it might be fine, but back/stomach sleepers often need the firm.
Did you rotate it? Also check the foundation. A soft foundation can make any mattress feel mushier.
Floor models get broken in by everyone and their uncle. New ones always feel firmer initially, but the HD has a pillow top so it can feel softer after a few weeks. That said, if you're sinking to the point of discomfort, call them. Their CS is decent.
280 lbs here, had mine 8 months. It definitely softened up but hasn't bottomed out. Still supportive. Maybe you just need more time.
Medium-firm is a marketing term. For heavy sleepers it's often just medium. You might need the firm option.
Have you tried flipping it? Oh wait, you can't. lol. But seriously, give it 30 days.
Could be the mattress protector. Some of those add a lot of softness. Remove it for a night and seee.
Also, what's your foundation? If it's a box spring or slats too far apart, that'll change feel.
I had a similar issue with a different brand. Turned out the foam layers were glued slightly off. They replaced it.
Honestly, if you're already doubting it at two weeks, return it while you can. Don't wait until the trial ends and you're stuck.
Saatva's return policy has a $99 fee, just FYI. Not free like some.
Mine felt softer after a month but then Firmed back up a little? Weird. Bodies adjust too.
^ that's just you getting used to it. Not the mattress changing back.
Maybe you lost weight? Kidding. But seriously, mattresses are like shoes—break-in is real.
I'd give it at least 30 days. If still too soft, ask for a firm exchange. They might let you swap the comfort layer.
